"Paradise Lost" is a long narrative poem written by English poet John Milton in the 17th century. It tells the story of the fall of Adam and Eve from the perspective of the fallen angel Satan.

The poem begins with Satan, who has been cast out of heaven and is now residing in Hell. Despite his circumstances, Satan remains proud and defiant, declaring that he will never humble himself before God. He then gathers a group of fallen angels and sets out to tempt and corrupt humanity, with the ultimate goal of overthrowing God's rule.

Satan's first target is Adam and Eve, who live in the Garden of Eden, a paradise on earth. Satan takes the form of a serpent and successfully tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. She then gives some of the fruit to Adam, and both of them become aware of their nakedness and sin.

As a result of their disobedience, God banishes Adam and Eve from the Garden and curses the earth, causing it to become a place of suffering and death. Despite this, Adam and Eve remain loyal to God and hope for redemption.

Throughout the poem, Milton explores themes of free will, temptation, and the nature of evil. He also reflects on the nature of God and the implications of the fall of humanity.

Milton's "Paradise Lost" is a classic work of literature that has had a significant influence on Western culture and thought. It continues to be widely read and studied to this day, and its themes and ideas continue to be relevant and thought-provoking.
