If they were different, why? The boys then started their journey of running away from rebels to find safe places. There's not that much focus on the romance, as they keep it on the war aspect, and I really liked that. There are six others that continues this story. In order to survive, the group had to stick with each other and fight to win back their town. The war brings out some bad qualities, which causes the group to consider revenge, but it also brings out some of the good qualities such as leadership and courage. Not so extraordinary but an enjoyable read. They bond over talk of their life at home and some of their hobbies that they miss already.

The story would be incomparably lessened if it was turned into nothing but an adventure flick, where things blow up with with huge fireballs but where nothing that happens really touches the characters and, in the end, all the sound and fury signifies nothing. Sixteen year old Ellie and her friends decided to have one final adventure before the new term begins. It is an almost universal fact. They were very self-sufficient almost from the very beginning. Only does Ellie realise that she is not becoming a monster when she sits down and realises she is afraid of doing it and as long as she is always afraid of killing and has her doubts on killing she will not become a monster. In fact, about the only quibble I have is the on-again-off-again relationship between Ellie and Lee. As in real life, first impressions matter.

By the time they get back, their country has been invaded and they're the only people left in their town, as their families and friends have been taken prisoner. The richness and the poverty, the joy and the cruelty, the sweetness and the sadness. See I get that these kids had 'experiences' and a lot more survival skills than city kids. So forgive me for this weird, abstract, and emotional review.

Even people who usually break rules, wanted to join the army. But while there might have been a lot of text given over to these descriptions of scenes and locales, the writing was on point and really did an excellent job of painting the scene of the Australian wilderness. Definitely one of my favorite stories of 2011! It was just that some 'plans' they thought up were too unrealistic I think: they were so minute, down to every last details and these were often last-minute things they need to make up so sometimes they were too jarring.
