The primary contentions in the play spin around The Oxen Meadows and two dogs called Ugadi and Otkatai. I listened to a dramatic reading of the play, which made every bit of it 10 times better. I don't know what this is supposed to be a satire of, but it was funny af due the complete farcical nature of the 3 characters. After they kiss, they go to Gilbertson and inform him that they are again engaged but for real this time.

But that does not seem possible. Lomov promises to turn them out. While talking about their family and the land they own, a dispute arises between them. She goes into hysterics, and asks her father to bring him back immediately. He and Natalia begin shouting, and Lomov threatens to take the Tschubukovs to court.
But Leap was left behind. Chubukov is delighted and calls her into the room. Before they become engaged, Lomov and Natalya act like a married couple. His efforts to actually propose keep on getting derailed as he and Natalia get in various arguments, but with some help from her father, and despite a major panic attack, he does successfully succeed in proposing and the proposal is accepted. Natalia cannot stand this. So her interest is maintaining her wealth and keeping his daughter happy. But they get into a fight over whose dog is better his or hers.

Tschubukov naturally feels very happy and kisses him. He wanted someone in his life who could look after him, as he was suffering from a weak heart and sleeping-sickness. It could be classified as a humorous story where the author mocked the habits of landowners. The real purpose is to increase their estates and landed properties.
