John Endicott was a prominent figure in the early history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, serving as Governor of the colony from 1644 to 1649 and again from 1651 to 1654. Endicott was born in England in 1588 and immigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628. He quickly rose to prominence within the colony, serving as a member of the Governor's Council and as the colony's chief military officer. In 1644, he was elected Governor of the colony, succeeding John Winthrop, who had served as the first Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
During his time as Governor, Endicott worked to strengthen the colony's legal and political systems.
