Landon now feels deep regret at having teased Jamie and her current co-star — the stuttering, nervous Eddie — behind their backs during drama class because he discovers that Jamie is aware of those barbs. He visits her the next day, and they kiss. And the last time she saw him was the most traumatic day in both their lives--he lost a son and she blamed herself. And thus the novel ends, without our knowing to which miracle Landon refers. Landon runs back to Jamie and asks, "Will you marry me? This sort of question will come up again in the novel — questions of why are we here, what is our purpose, and how do we discern it. .

Jamie's Christmas gift to Landon is her deceased mother's Bible. Opening night of The Christmas Angel he sees Jamie for the first time in full make up in Angel gear and that is when he realizes that he fell in love with Jamie.

He's popular with just about everyone, and he's rich. Landon has to overcome his fear of hanging out with the "outcast", and then has to deal with his feelings once he realizes he has them. Landon suprises her by proposing to her and she accepts. Jamie, until the very end of the film, stays the same. His prayers soon lead him to ponder his purpose in life as he searches for a response to the feeling in his heart that there is some role for him in Jamie's illness, something for him to do. Only Reason can find the answers within her family's magic to save everyone who matters most to her. But then, when Landon sees Jamie onstage in front of everyone, without her bun or makeup on, he realizes that there really is something captivating about this girl who plays his sister.
