Usually, we witness artists rapping about how many sneakers smother the walls of their closets or how they are sporting retros months before the official release date; however, Seattle, Washington based artist Macklemore brings a different, more controversial perspective to the sneaker culture. It was such a holistic process, and it was an amazing way for us to bond as friends and as collaborators - it was very much all hands on deck. Macklemore and Kesha remind us to slow down and fully experience every moment of our lives so that we will remember all the amazing times we had when we were younger. This song is enlightening I feel more aware of my life and when I buy something, I think about why I buy it. Overall this song is a great tune for listening to when you are going for a quick run or just resting because when the deeper meaning hits it is like having your eyes opened and overall it is a great song all around. The little part of the song where we are taken back down into the first person is really touching.
This song was my attempt to break down my own, conflicted interest in the sneaker culture. He added that in any licensing deal, they are going to edit anyway. I had proposed and thought about these questions before, but I never broke them down. The use of metaphors in the song help convey the message of not following a consumerist society.
