Mockingjay, the third and final book in the Hunger Games trilogy, picks up where the second book left off, with Katniss Everdeen and the other rebels having just won the war against the Capitol. However, the victory is a bittersweet one, as Katniss has lost many friends and loved ones in the fighting, and the country of Panem is left in ruins.
As the Mockingjay, the symbol of the rebellion, Katniss is expected to play a crucial role in the rebuilding of Panem and the creation of a new government. However, she is hesitant to take on this responsibility, as she is still grieving and struggling to come to terms with all that has happened.
Despite her reservations, Katniss agrees to become the Mockingjay and help lead the rebuilding efforts. Along the way, she faces many challenges, including the difficult task of trying to unite the different districts of Panem and establish a new system of government that is fair and just for all.

The three books were adapted into a highly successful film series of four films between 2012 and 2015, including a two-film treatment of Mockingjay in 2014 and 2015, in which Katniss is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. This novel was adapted to the movie in 2012 and directed by Gary Ross and co-written by Suzanne Collins herself. Katniss uses the self-destruct feature of the Holo to give Finnick a quick death instead of an agonizing one, and she leads Gale, Peeta and what remains of the film crew up to the streets of the Capitol. Twelve districts in Panem have taken up arms against the cruelty of President Snow and the exploitation by the Capitol. However, Snow eithier chokes on his own bloody saliva or laughs himself to death anyway, so he's now dead too. Concealing her true plan, which is to assassinate President Snow herself, Katniss leads the group underground.

Finnick Odair, another rebel and former competitor in the Hunger Games, tells Katniss that Primrose is correct: Snow likes to control his enemies by imprisoning their loved ones. A large group of people in District 5 destroy a large dam near the Capitol that provides electricity to the city. They both think the other failed to protect Peeta in the Quarter Quell arena. Published by Scholastic, the book is worth to read. Katniss must now serve as the face of the rebellion, their Mockingjay, or forfeit the lives of her loved ones: her mother, her sister Prim, her friend Gale Hawthorne, and her fellow Hunger Games victor Peeta Mellark. Katniss only agrees to the role if Coin will acquiesce to her demands.
Gale will come along as her bodyguard. Haymitch realizes that Peeta has been tortured and conditioned by the government until he believes that Katniss is the cause of all evil in Panem. In attempt to get access to Snow,Coin bombed his house so they could get in. While leaving, Katniss learns that District 13 has been stockpiling weapons for years, preparing for a possible war with the Capitol. The feed cuts out just as Peeta is hit to the floor, his blood splattering the tile.

Katniss meets her film crew, led by Cressida On the way home, Katniss implies that she is having a hard time being the poster girl for the rebellion, drawing thousands of people into the war and into their deaths. Katniss feels so guilty about Peeta's circumstances that she can no longer fulfill her duties as Mockingjay. He tells her that Coin orchestrated the attack that killed Prim. Other District 12 natives later return, including Peeta, who has recovered his memories and his love for Katniss. President Coin asks Katniss to tape another promotional film outside, to show the Capitol that they are still there.

In order to save Peeta and the Districts, Katniss unites the people against the Capitol. Suddenly, she learns that the rescue team has miraculously returned and was successful. In the book Mockingjay,one main conflict is person vs. Katniss is assigned to a squad and sent with a film crew to shoot propaganda in the Capitol. They leave you in suspicion wondering about what will happen next, and they make it seem like there is going to be another book, when there isn 't. Prim is killed, and Katniss sustains severe burns. Antagonists Antagonists in a book or movie are the opposite of a protagonist. However, Katniss was unable to convince Snow, and the districts, that she had not set out to inspire a rebellion. The book ends with an epilogue, where Katniss and Peeta are married with two children.
However, the leaders of the rebellion, President Alma Coin and Plutarch Heavensbee, want her back in the action. Katniss and Peeta find love with each other once again, and a new peace in the knowledge that their children will never know the nightmares of the Hunger Games. He invented the Hunger Games as an annual reminder that tells the Districts of Panem never to rebel and to remember that the Capitol has total control over all of the Districts. Katniss is amazed that Peeta has stayed calmer than any of the other soldiers. Katniss Everdeen is the epitome of this theme; her disposition luckily possesses all of the attributes needed to survive. During the victory ceremony, Katniss fires her ceremonial arrow into Coin, even though Snow is standing right next to her.
