I recently re-watched this film with some friends and found myself, yet again, swept away by it's enchantment, romance, and live of life.
What man would not like to have the skill to make a woman believe what he says about her? Unless you are a dyed in wool cynic, you will find the magic in Don Juan DeMarco. There is one scene which shows a harem of partially nude women briefly, in a non-sexual manner, other than that it is pretty tame. A superb story where patient helps heal the doctor. His magnetism is evident just with him in that costume. Superbly well acted by Johnny Depp, Marlon Brando, and Fay Dunaway what an incredible beauty even at her age! Johnny truly became Don Juan DeMarco.

He systematically begins to rectify that, and the movie becomes mainly Brando's and Dunaway's, as these tales of romance get them to rekindle their love life. But the thing that was interesting is that so many people who compared Johnny Depp to Marlon Brando on his diverse roles and character acting methods, they finally got to work together in this movie and bonus, they had great chemistry on screen. His presence is big enough to counter weight Depp's magnetism, and I'm not making fun of his weight. Juan did not conform to the norm therefore he must be abnormal and mentally sick, however what if Juan just saw things differently. At the end of the ten days, Mickler is able to convince John to take his medication, and makes him understand that not everyone believes he is Don Juan.
I want to live in Don Juan's world. So he ends up in a clinic for delusional patients under the care of weary and dreary pshychatrist Dr Jack, played by charming Marlyn Brando. The mysteries of courtship have reduced to awkward teen-age comedies or sexual romps where the sex has little or no relevance and even less lust. That's a shame, really, because "Don Juan DeMarco" is the kind of delicate, oddball fantasy that could have been charming, without Brando's petulant presence spoiling the fun. Here, as with hundreds of others, the third impinges on the second in such a way as to blur the relationship between our reality and that of the film.
Romanticism is not a malady that needs to be cured, but the very thing that makes life worth living. Unless you understand the meanings above, or if you have a cold heart, you'll probably rate it a 5 or 6. He agrees and Don tells him his story. Was he a sad, lonely youth who invented a rich, romantic fantasy world for himself that became so appealing and rejuvenating to his psychiatrist that in the end they fly off to Mexico to re-live that fantasy world under his benevolent supervision? I have no problem, whatsoever, recommending this movie to everyone.
Mickler, surprised by Don Juan's candor and apparent lack of artifice agrees to the deal. Wholly different the usual fare Hollyood dished up in the nineties, DON JUAN DEMARCO is charming and disarming. This kid could teach him some things. He meets a suicidal man who is claiming that he is the legendary Don Juan DeMarco, he is put into the hospital. So if you know this it brings an interesting layer to the movie. Most people don't understand Brando's career choices.
