Andrew Jackson Pollack was an American painter and printmaker who was known for his unique style of abstract expressionism. He was born on October 27, 1912, in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in a poor, working-class neighborhood. Despite his humble beginnings, Pollack had a natural talent for art, and he began painting at a young age.

Throughout his career, Pollack struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse, which often hindered his ability to work. Despite these challenges, he continued to create art and became one of the leading figures in the abstract expressionist movement, alongside artists like Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.

Pollack is best known for his drip paintings, which he created by pouring and splattering paint onto large canvases. These paintings were characterized by their spontaneity and energy, as Pollack would often work quickly and impulsively, allowing the paint to flow and drip in unpredictable ways. His dripped paintings were seen as a departure from traditional representational art, and they helped to establish Pollack as a pioneer in the abstract expressionist movement.

In addition to his drip paintings, Pollack also created a number of other notable works, including his "black and white" paintings, which were characterized by their stark contrasts and geometric shapes. He also experimented with printmaking, creating a series of prints using the lithograph process.

Despite his success as an artist, Pollack struggled with personal issues throughout his life, and he ultimately died at the age of 44 in an alcohol-related car crash. Despite his early death, Pollack's work continues to be celebrated and admired, and he is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
